December 16, Isaiah

Day 17, December 16

Persons: Isaiah

Theme/Event: The Call to Holiness

Symbol: Fire Tongs with Hot Coal

Isaiah 1:10-20, 6:1-13, 8:11-9:7

There was another prophet after the time of Elijah whose name was Isaiah. God showed Isaiah His power and glory in a vision.

Isaiah 6:1-8

1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said:
“ Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”

4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
5
So I said:
“ Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The LORD of hosts.”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7
And he touched my mouth with it, and said:
“ Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away,
And your sin purged.”
8
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
“ Whom shall I send,
And who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

What an awesome, powerful God is our God. He is more amazing than we can even imagine. When Isaiah saw a vision of God, Isaiah knew he was not worthy to be in the presence of God. Then the seraphim purified him with a coal from the altar on his lips. Then Isaiah heard the voice of God asking for a messenger, and Isaiah asked for the job! Isaiah knew that his people needed to hear God’s words and God’s plans for their lives. Isaiah was willing to do whatever he had to do to bring God’s message to others. Part of the message that God told Isaiah to tell the people was what it would be like when Jesus came.

Isaiah 9:6-7

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

What an amazing privilege that Isaiah had to tell others about Jesus! Did you know that we have that same privilege? We can tell everyone we know all about Jesus. That wasn’t just God’s plan for Isaiah - that is God’s plan for you too!

Questions:

  • What did Isaiah see in his vision?

  • What did God want Isaiah to do?

  • Who can you tell about Jesus?

Prayer: Dear God, help me to tell others about Jesus. Thank you for letting us be part of your plan to tell everyone about Jesus.
